How to TIP the TEAM

At Teepee Creek Outfitters, every experience and hunt is a true team effort. From the guides leading you through the backcountry, to the packers hauling gear and game, to the camp jacks who warm up the meals and keep the wood stoves hot — it takes a hardworking crew to make your experience safe, enjoyable, and unforgettable.

Gratuity is not included in our rates.

One of the most common questions we get is: “How should I tip my guide and the rest of the team?” While tipping is never mandatory, it’s a thoughtful and meaningful way to show your appreciation for the people who make your hunt possible.

Here’s a simple guide to help you navigate tipping etiquette and ensure your gratitude is shared with the entire team who made your week in the mountains a success.

Why Tip Your Guide? Guiding isn’t just a job—it’s a lifestyle. Our guides spend countless hours in the field, often in challenging conditions, to give you the best chance at success. They handle everything from setting up camp, cooking meals, ensuring your safety, and packing in and out of the mountains with heavy loads of equipment and hopefully a successful harvest! A tip is a way to say, “I see your hard work, and I appreciate it.”

How Much Should You Tip? Tipping amounts can vary based on the type of hunt, the level of service, and your overall experience. Here are some general guidelines:

• Standard Tip: 10–20% of the hunt cost

• Exceptional Service: 20% or more, especially if your guides and crew went above and beyond and your service was unforgettable

• Unsuccessful Hunt: Even if you don’t fill your tag, consider the effort your guide put into the hunt. A fair tip reflects their dedication, regardless of the outcome.

For example, on a $6,500 hunt, a tip of $1,000 - $1,500 is common, depending on your experience.

When and How to Tip

• When: At the end of your hunt, typically when you’re saying your goodbyes.

• How: Cash is preferred, but if you’re unsure, ask ahead of time. Hand the tip directly to your guide with a sincere thank you—it means a lot to hear how much you appreciated their effort.

While financial tips are standard, a heartfelt note, a thoughtful gift, or a positive online review can go a long way, too. Guides take pride in their work, and knowing they made an impact means the world.
